In our interview, Clint Lawler ‘97 speaks about his four years at Mercersburg Academy where he played soccer, squash, and lacrosse. He notes that Mercersburg instilled in him an ethic of hard work and problem solving, which has carried over into his military career. Captain Lawler shares that he chose to attend the Naval Academy because he values service and constantly seeks challenges. He specifically chose to join the Navy due to the engineering opportunities, and his ties to the water, having grown up in Maryland. Captain Lawler outlines his career and various positions in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, Engineering Duty Officer, and Program Manager. He also shares his experiences at MIT, where he studied Naval Architecture and Electrical Engineering, as well as the Naval Diving and Salvage School. Captain Lawler highlights the importance of perspective and integrity in decision making. Currently Captain Lawler is a Program Manager at the Washington Naval Yard.
